Public transport

Due to the fact that Nun Monkton has no through traffic there is no public transport. The nearest railway station is 2.2 miles at Hammerton. York station is 11.1 miles and there are good taxi services. There is a Park and Ride on the A59 just a few miles from the barn with very regular services going into York.

Local shops and amenities

There is a small Asda supermarket at the Texaco garage at the top of Pool Lane (2 miles) which stocks all the basics and to back it up, close by, is Pool Bridge Farm Shop which specialises in local meat. For internet shopping Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsburys deliver to the village, so why not place your order before you set off and arrange for delivery the morning after you arrive at the barn?

We are very lucky to have the Alice Hawthorn Pub (01423 330303) in the village which serves excellent food though you will have to book, especially at weekends.

More information about the local pubs and restaurants is in the barn for when you arrive, but just to reassure you, there is a great pub in the village, although you will need to take the torch to avoid the duck pond on the way home. There is a good Thai Restaurant (Sweet Basil) next to the Texaco garage. Bizarre location, but great food and also handy if you fancy a takeaway. It’s open until 22:00, every day.
