Public transport

Due to the fact that Nun Monkton has no through traffic there is no public transport. The nearest railway station is 2.2 miles at Hammerton. York station is 11.1 miles and there are good taxi services. A new Park & Ride was completed in 2014. It is on the A59, just a few miles from the barn, with regular services going into York.

Local shops and amenities

There is an excellent small Co-op supermarket at the Texaco garage at the end of Pool Lane ( 2 miles) which stocks all the basics and to back it up, close by,  the wonderful Ainsty Farm Shop which specialises in local meat, their own sausages and cured bacon, homemade puddings and an in house bakery, so you can have freshly baked bread every day. For internet shopping Tesco, Waitrose and Sainsburys deliver to the village, so why not place your order before you set off and arrange for delivery the morning after you arrive at the barn ?

More information about the local pubs and restaurants is in the barn for when you arrive, but just to reassure you, there is a great pub in the village, although you will need to take the torch to avoid the duck pond on the way home. There is a really brilliant Thai restaurant at the top of the lane next to the garage. Bizarre location, but great food and also handy if you fancy a takeaway. It’s open until 22:00, every day.
